LASER HAIR REDUCTION-Laser hair reduction is the process of reducing unwanted hair by means of exposure to pulses of laser light that destroy the hair follicle.

Here at Dr Shreeshail's Aesthetics we use Diode laser which is suitable for Indian skin and hair type .The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis (SPTL).

Melanin is considered the primary chromophore (target) for all hair removal lasers. As Melanin causes selective absorption of photons of laser light, only black or brown hair can be removed. Diode Laser works best with dark coarse hair. Light skin and dark hair are an ideal combination, being most effective and producing the best results.

Hair grows in several phases (anagen, telogen, catagen) and a laser can only affect the currently active growing hair follicles (early anagen). Hence, several sessions are needed to kill hair in all phases of growth. Most patients need a minimum of ten to fourteen treatments for optimal results.

Hirsutism is the excessive hairiness on women in those parts of the body where terminal hair normally is absent or minimal, such as a beard or chest hair. It refers to a male pattern of body hair (androgenic hair) and it is therefore primarily of cosmetic and psychological concern .Hirsutism can be caused by either an increased level of androgens (testosterone), the male hormones, or an oversensitivity of hair follicles to androgens (end organ hypersensitivity).

The following may be some of the conditions that may increase a woman's normally low level of male hormones:

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS),
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia
Cushing's disease
Growth hormone excess (acromegaly)

Tumors in the ovaries
Insulin resistance
Stromal hyperthecosis (SH) - in postmenopausal women
Obesity:
Medications such as- tetrahydrogestrinone, phenytoin, minoxidil

Some normal side effects may occur after laser hair removal treatments, including itching, pink skin, redness, and swelling around the treatment area or swelling of the follicles (follicular edema). These side effects rarely last more than two or three days.
